Tips to save on your energy bill

What with being at home more and the cost of wholesale energy rising, we’ve seen our bills shoot up in the last few months. As we head into Winter and have to get our heating on again here’s some tips to help you save on your bills.

Get your boiler checked

Make sure your boiler is in good working order to see you through the cold spells. If you already have a maintenance plan in place it may include a boiler service so make sure you get yours booked in.

Stop the cold getting in

It’s an obvious one, and you’ve probably already added draught excluders and heavy curtains where the cold comes in but take a look to make sure that everything is in good order.

Wear an extra layer

Sounds like advice from your Mum!  But adding another layer will keep you warmer. It might mean you don’t have to turn up the heat as much, so will save money too.

Are your radiators hot?

If they’re not as hot as they used to be there could be air trapped in them. Use a radiator key to take the air out and get the heat flowing.

Take a look in your gutters

A build up of leaves and rubbish could block water. In cold weather this will turn to ice and could cause the gutters to collapse. Definitely worth a check!

Switch down the thermostat

According to the Energy Saving Trust, turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save around £60 a year.
